The River Gardens was bought in the
early 1970's by Pat & the late Bill Perry. It had been a
tea gardens since the turn of the century but was in a
run down state. Over the years it was redesigned. |

Pat, at 75, still helps, maintain the gardens and
enjoys propagating & discovering new plants. The River
Gardens Cafe is run by Pat & Bill's daughter Jackie.
The River Gardens Cafe serves cooked meals & homemade
baking all day. We are also renowned for our popular
Whitby Crab Sandwiches & homemade Scones with Jam &
Cream.
The Cafe is licensed, allowing you to relax and enjoy
a glass of wine or cool beer with your meal whilst
watching the beautiful River Esk flow by.
Here at the River Gardens Cafe we try & source our
food locally (sample menu below).
- Local butcher 'Radfords' steak pie
- Whitby scampi
- Homemade quiche
- Homemade lasagne
- Whitby crab sandwiches
- Home cooked ham sandwiches
- Homemade leek & potato soup
- Fruit & cheese scones
- Cherry pie
- Caramel shortbread
- Coconut bakewell
We also offer a range of buffets for private
parties/functions & celebrations. Menus are available
upon request. |

We are easily accessible by bus & train with a bus
stop located directly outside our gate and Sleights
train station a 2 minute walk away. |

We have a large free car park & we accept coach
parties too (please contact us in advance, we have
various menus available from snacks through to Whitby
caught Cod & Chips). |

We have an 18 hole putting green in the middle of
our gardens. |
 |
We also have available to rent one 2 bedroom holiday
cottage here at The River Gardens and two cottages in
the centre of Whitby - please call for details. |
